With the increasing of urbanization level and motorization demand, the phenomenon of road congestion is becoming increasingly serious. In the face of congestion, our country commonly used "the construction of urban expressway and arterial road" to solve the problem,"the transport efficiency of arterial road is deemed as the entire transport efficiency of road network ", ignore the importance of the minor road, made the loss of minor road. Minor road system missing is a common problem of urban road network in China, it not only leads to the imbalance of road network structure, the decrease of road network transport efficiency; but also reduces the competitiveness of walk, bike, bus, the structure of traffic is maladjusted, leads to travel inconvenience of residents. However, the construction of minor roads in China is often unclear where to link arterial roads, how to link arterial roads, the problem of the connection between arterial road and minor road is very often. Minor road do not play the role of effective supplement to the arterial road, but increase the traffic pressure of connection point.Based on the above situation, the study of theory and practice of some areas which minor road networks are advanced domestic and overseas is belonged to this paper. This thesis enriches the cases of the traffic characteristics and organization of cross-shaped intersection of arterial and minor road (CIAM), in combination with excellent case analysis of the intersection. On the basis of improvement of the feature of arterial road crossing, the author use VISSIM to simulate the reality, build the planning of CIAM method, and make up for the deficiency of connecting model of CIAM.Chapter one of the thesis mainly introduces the background and significance of the research, it clarifies the research technical route and framework. The second chapter introduces the basic model of CIAM, including graph pattern, means of transportation and traffic organization form, form a plurality of connection mode of intersection through the combination of these three forms, and prepare for the text and foreshadowing.The main part of the thesis is the third and fourth chapter. Third chapter uses VISSIM traffic to simulation software for the analysis of CIAM, method to calculate green signal time for minor road which pass through arterial road was worked out. Results show that properly designed and signaled CIAM’s effect to loss of arterial road’s speed and capability is very little. The fourth chapter induces and analyses the difference of the arterial-minor road network and the connecting of CIAM between domestic and foreign city, and summarizes the connecting model and its application. The thesis presents a methodology for effective lane allocation by analyzing the lane marginal utility and the impact of increasing or reducing the lanes at main/side roads on transportation and urban functionalities.The fifth chapter is the conclusion part, summarizes and analyses the research process and research results of the thesis.
