In recent years, with a large area interconnectiong of power gird continuous, the stability problems of the power system becomes prominent. The system long-term dynamic stability problems need to focus on. As the technology continues to advance, the dynamic characteristic of generator excitation system affect the stability of the system is more significant. Grid management department needed the detailed model parameters of generator excitation system with in power system stability analysis and calculation. As field measured by site conditions to restrict, real-time digital simulation system based on a detailed model of the generator and excitation regulator and power rectifier, can be used to that the detailed checksum of generator and excitation system model and parameters, and in-depth study of the AVR internal output characteristics of the various links and reasonable fitted.At first, this paper introduces the research background and the status quo, and on the brief introduction the principles and test methods of the AVR performance detection test by based on RTDS. And makes a brief analysis of the system function and transfer function block diagram and parameter setting of AVR.This paper focused on analyzing the main-control-aspects of functionality and dynamic performance of the AVR, the auxiliary constraints and protection and other aspects of functional, and dynamic characteristics of the coordination between the various aspects of the situation. In RTDS within structures the AVR model and dynamic output characteristics compared with the actual AVR, research the authenticity of its design and reasonable. The test shows that the performance detection test of AVR by Based on RTDS is advanced experimental methods and should be promoted. It need to focus on the tests on site that are difficult to complete, and can check the transfer function model and parameters of AVR. To meet the requirements of the grid stability calculation and dynamic simulation.
