Osmanthus heterophyllus'Goshiki'belongs to Osmanthus Lour of Oleaeae family, with evergreen shrubs,which originates from Japan. It was planted in the southern United States and Britain.lt is an excellent landscape tree.In the paper, The cutting propagation technique and rooting mechanism of Osmanthus heterophyllus'Goshiki'was studied. The main results were as follows:(1) The root age percent was the highest when the soft wood cutting was soaked in IBA 200mg-L-1for 2 hours, meanwhile rooting percentage was as high as 90.3%, other rooting morphological indexes was better than different dealings. The rooting rate of CK was 26.4%.The optimizing soil was Vermiculite and Prelate mixed treatment. Cutting effect was best in July.(2) During adventitious root formation, most of the content of nutritive substance declined with the emergence of callusing and rooting. some indexes about the content of nutrient manifested a given rule with the development of rooting, such as soluble sugar, amylum, soluble albumen, total nitrogen, total phosphor and the rate of C/N etc. The content of soluble sugar and amylum had a downtrend at the forming period of callus and all the period of rooting, as the soluble sugar and amylum provided energy for callus and rooting process; thereafter, the content of nutrient had an uptrend, then indicated no fluctuating. The rooting rate had a negative correlation with the content of Nitrogen.In the rooting process, C/N value had a downtrend at the forming and uptrend thereafter. The high ratio of C/N value can promote the emergence and of callusing and elongation of rooting.(3) Both the fluctuating of nutrient and the hormone in burgeon like IAA, ABA, GA3 and ZR etc promoted the rooting process. The higher value of IAA/ABA and IAA/ZR was better for root-promoting during the shape of rooting anlagen and the emergence of root. The lower content of GA3 can promote the rooting. The higher content of ZR at prophase, and lower content of ZR at anaphase were beneficial to rooting.Exogenous hormone increased the activity of POD and PPO, and decreased the activity of IAAO. The decrease of the activity of IAAO was conductive to the accumulation of IAA content, which can promote the emergence of callusing and rooting.
