Many traits of Gansu meat sheep new breeding population were studied in thispaper, including appearance, growth and development, behavior, physiologicalindexes and reproductive performance. The results were following.Gansu meat sheep new breeding population has a homogeneous white coat.Either male or female are hornless. It has moderate head and thick neck. Thepopulation has a good body Shape for meat sheep.The birth weight of male and female lambs for Gansu meat sheep new breedingpopulation were4.87±1.11kg,4.33±0.97kg respectively. The respective weaningweight was34.43±4.93kg,30.76±5.20kg. The yearling weight was66.30±6.65kgand43.33±6.18kg respectively.0~4months of average daily gains per day for ramsand ewes were0.241kg and0.215kg respectively. The Gompertz model wasconstructed for the Gansu meat sheep new breed population.The model for rams wasW t=65.399e2.452e0.329t,=43.926e2.342e0.473tfor ewes.The body weight of maleand female lambs at inflection age are24.06kg and16.16kg respectively. Theinflection age are2.73(82d) and1.80(54d) respectively. The maximum monthlyweight are7.92kg and7.64kg respectively. The instantaneous growth rate are7.27and5.18respectively. The relative growth rate are0.21and0.17,respectively.Behavior is affected by age and management way. Foraging time in autumn forrams and ewes was the longest,227.3324.17min and440.3328.15minrespectively, the difference was extremely significant between them(P<0.01).Thestanding time in autumn for rams and ewes was391.3316.07min and498.0029.72min respectively, the difference was extremely significant between them(P<0.01).The lying and sleeping time in autumn for rams and ewes was388.6716.07min and282.0029.72min respectively, the difference was extremely significantbetween them(P<0.01).The chewing times in summer for rams and ewes were25232.332482.07and16608.334503.01respectively, the difference wassignificant between them(P<0.05).Physiological indexes were changed with seasons.The heart rate of rams and ewes in spring was86.567.44times/min and95.618.41times/min respectively, the difference was significant between them (P< 0.05).The RBC of rams and ewes in spring was12.782.721012L-1and10.151.931012L-1, the difference was significant between them(P<0.05). The anustemperature of rams and ewes in autumn was38.990.15℃and38.710.27℃respectively, the difference was significant between them(P<0.05). The anustemperature of males and females in winter was39.800.41℃and39.120.11℃respectively, the difference was extremely significant between them(P<0.01).Theheart rate of rams and ewes in winter was88.508.69times/min and73.0613.80times/min respectively, the difference was significant between them(P<0.05).Sperm concentration of rams of Gansu meat sheep new breeding population wasthe highest in autumn, but least in summer,3.00±1.27billion/ml and1.91±0.56billion/ml respectively, the difference was extremely significan(tP<0.01).The spermmotility was the highest in summer but least in autumn,0.84±0.05and0.70±0.14respectively, the difference was extremely significant(P<0.01).The abnormal spermrate was the highest in spring, but least in autumn,0.15±0.06and0.10±0.03respectively, the difference was extremely significant (P<0.01).The scrotalcircumference was largest in autumn, but least in winter,32.50±2.63and27.89±2.66respectively, the difference was extremely significant(P<0.01).There are two kinds of genotype (B+,++) in Gansu meat sheep new breedingpopulation, but BB genotype was not detected. The genotype frequency of B+and++are0.30and0.70, respectively. Obviously,++is dominant genotype in this population.The gene frequency of B and+are0.16and0.84respectively.It reveals that the FecBgene located in intercrossing population is significantly deviated fromHardy-Weinberg equilibrium(P<0.01) by χ2test,but a generation of Gansu meatsheep new breeding population is not deviated from the Hardy-Weinberg balance(P>0.05).
