Corn which takes an important position in the food produce is the second largest food plant in our country. Resource of corn stalks is very abundant. As the industry and animal husbandry are developing fast, the reserve and recycle of corn stalks are taken more and more seriously. On the basis of learning about and doing researches on domestic and foreign corn harvesters, a good-damped and advanced corn stalks cutoff and windrowing device is designed. The device is required to realize the cutting, gathering, repoussage and windrowing. The stalks can meet the demands for picking up and bundling. The paper gives the whole scheme of the corn stalks cutoff and windrowing device. Its working process and key parts' structures are briefly introduced. According to the realistic working situation of the device, relative theoretical analyses including theoretical cutting length of the corn stalks and height from the ground of the device are done. For a good working performance the hobbing cutter must reach a cutting speed at3O~34m/s and height from the ground of the device must have an optimum H. A research on cutting energy cost experiment of corn stalks is done, and the situations of corn stalks cutting energy cost and breaking are gotten. The cutting energy cost of non-nodes is5~30J, and nodes is7~20J. The force analysis of corn stalks cutting is done, and the corn stalks cutoff and windrowing device's theoretical output power is analyzed and theoretical output power16.88KW and11.51KW are gotten by different theories. A field experiment on4YZ-4stalks cutoff and windrowing combined corn harvester is done, and it shows to have a good performance. Belt drive is put into use and reliability of the device is enhanced. The shortcomings are found out to help next futher researches.
