Aim: To evaluate the curative effect of CO2 laser surgery under microscopic support laryngoscope combined with human leukocyte interferon subcutaneous injection on recrudescent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis patients. Methods:The clinical materials of 61 recrudescent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis patients who were treated in E.N.T. Department of Qilu Hospital affiliated to Shandong University during 2004 to 2009 were reviewed retrospectively. All of the 61 recrudescent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis patients were diagnosed definitely by pathological examination after surgery; and all of the 61 patients were given CO2 laser surgery under microscopic support laryngoscope. We divided the 61 patients into surgery alone group and surgery combined with interferon group according to different postoperative treatment. We divided anatomical subregions into two-sided vocal cord, anterior commissure, bilateral throat room, plica vestibularis, epiglottis throat surface, arytenoepiglottic fold, subglottic subregions according to UICC and Lusk RP. We followed up these patients for three months after surgery; and we evaluated the papillomatosis in anatomy and size according to anatomical subregions partitioning methods mentioned in the previous sentence. We also compared the size of papillomatosis after surgery with before surgery. Then we evaluated the curative effect of CO2 laser surgery under microscopic support laryngoscope combined with human leukocyte interferon subcutaneous injection on recrudescent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis patients. Results:There were 30 recrudescent juvenile laryngeal papillomatosis patients accepted CO2 laser surgery under microscopic support laryngoscope alone; and 31 recrudescent papillomatosis patients accepted CO2 laser surgery combined with interferon subcutaneous injection. We found that the size of papillomatosis in surgery alone group patients were obviously lessened after surgery than before; and the difference had statistical significance (P<0.05).We also observed that the size of papillomatosis in combined treatment group patients were obviously lessened after surgery than before; and the difference had statistical significance (P<0.05).The size of papillomatosis after treatment in combined treatment group patients were lesser than surgery alone group; the difference between two groups had statistical significance (P<0.05). Conclusions:Both surgery alone treatment and combined with interferon treatment can delay the recurrence of laryngeal papillomatosis. The surgery combined with interferon had better curative effect than surgery alone treatment. Through combined treatment, the doctors can reduce the recurrence range and the injury of normal throat cavity mucosa during reoperative process. Doctors can reduce the occurrence rate of complication such as laryngostenosis through combined treatment. So the CO2 laser surgery combined with interferon injection have great clinical application value.
