Objectives To identify the prevalence and risk factors of Helicobacter pylori infection in children ,and then to provide basis for prevention measures. Methods The information of 1842 children who admitted in the first people hospital of Yunnan province from 2007 to 2010 was collected by complete random sampling. A structured questionnaire was sent to the parents of these children to obtain related information about the living condition and the environment. The questionnaire consisted of personal and parents hygiene practices, living habits, parental history of gastritis or peptic ulcer, socioeconomic, and other demographic data. The risk factors were analysed using univariate factor analysis and unconditional logistic regression analysis.Result Among 1842 children, 903 (49.02%) were diagnosed as H.pylori IgG positive, at 1~3 years old,the H.pylori IgG positive rate was 24.27%, at 4~7 years old,the positive rate was 42.08%, at 8~14 years old, the positive rate was 56.17%. The prevalence increased with age. 582 (64.45%) children were diagnosed as H.pylori IgG positive but without gastrodudenal trouble. It was no significant statistical difference between male and female children. Logistic regressin analysis demonstrated significant independent relationships between seropositivity and the following factors: age (OR=2.126,P<0.001); dinnerware- sharing with other famil members in the home (OR=2.260,P<0.001); toothcup-sharing with other family members (OR=2.094,P<0.001); watching TV or reading books during dinner (OR=3.375,P<0.001); nibbing between meal (OR=0.599,P=<0.001); addiction to dessert and fried foods (OR=0.560,P<0.001); with a large population in family (OR=1.675,P<0.001); crowding(OR=0.989,P=0.013); low income (OR=1.676,P<0.001); parents and carers with a history of stomach disease (OR=1.970-2.937,P<0.001).Conclusions Infection of H.pylori is common in children in Yunnan, HP infection is on the increase with age among children, and it often occurs in the family with the patients and cares. The risk factors to HP infection is incorrect persons hygienic habits and standard of social economy .
