A Analysis Of Emperor Hanwu's Frontier Defense

The Northwest Frontier policy of Emperor Wu of Han Dynasty was made by the political,economic and people's ideas, and its evolution was the interaction of these factors under. In the context of the country's economic strength and internal stability, Emperor Wu went on a series of expeditions to the Huns and other National Government which preliminary issued to eliminate troubles of the Northwest frontier, then large-scale construction of fortress,barrier,pavilion and bongsuade in the Northwest region, formed a frontier defense system which basis on presentiment system. Supported by the border, Tuntian in the border county,migrating people to border,stricting with appointing officer and increasing the frontier soldiers which stabilized the situation in the Northwest border,promoted the development of the Northwest region, and provide some useful experience for later Dynasties. This thesis is devided into three chapters:ChapterⅠ:Background and theoretical basis of policy of the Northwest Frontier during Emperor Wu period. This part gives a brief introduction to the political,economic and people's ideas during the early Han Dynasty to Emperor Wu, and analysis these factors relationship with the defense policy in the Northwest frontier. And defines the geographical scope of the Northwest border during Emperor Wu period.ChapterⅡ:Frontier's ideas and policy in the Northwest border of Emperor Wu period. This part is the main body of this thesis. First, analyzing the guiding ideologies ,included that"Hua-Yi view"and"adm in istration according to minorities's customs"are the main influence factors. And Emperor Wu Group's understanding of the Northwest Frontier is a direct reason. Second, attention to discussing various measures which building in the Northwest border during the Emperor Wu period, including Frontier fortress,Edge barrier,operating mechanism,system of Tuntian and appointing frontier officers,border soldiers. At last, this thesis summarizes features of the Northwest frontier.ChapterⅢ: Influence of the Northwest Frontier in Emperor Wu period.
