Job burnout is a very popular topic of modern psychological research. Many staff who have to meet people during their work such as police, teachers and doctors more or less undergo job burnout. Job burnout has been a prevalent phenomenon in various fields. As police always work under the high load, high risk and high stress situation for the specific characteristics of their job, the phenomenon of job burnout has been such notable. More attention has be paid on police's mental health. This study employs questionnaire to find out the structural dimension of police's job burnout, and its relation with the demographic variables and with their mental health, in order to investigate the general status of job burnout and propose some corresponding constructive measures. The study involves two parts including preceding study and formal study. In the preceding study,350 police from Guangzhou were chosen as the subjects by stratified sampling. In the meanwhile, a formal questionnaire with 4 factors and 18 items was formed by literature analyzing, interviewing and questionnaire. Also some statistic methods like exploratory factor analyses, credits and validity were used to amend the MBI-GS (Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey), whose credits and validity meets the standard of psychometrics. The 4 factors belong to the questionnaire are depersonalization, low personal accomplishment, mental and psychological tension, emotional exhaustion. Based on the investigation above, we continue to investigate 200 police by stratified sampling with the amended MBI and the self-report symptom inventory (SCL-90), to analyses the results with the software of SPSS 18.0, and correlation analysis.Firstly, the results show that police's age, only child or not, marriage, categories of police and working lifetime are highly correlate with job burnout, whereas there is no significant difference between their age, address of family and residence registered. Moreover, the more job burnout, the lower mental health lever, which means that the less job burnout, the higher mental health lever. This study offers theory foundation and effective appliance to police selection, police training and police recruitment.
