According to the literatures aboard, aspiring for more extrinsic goals such as financial success,is evidently associated with anxiety and pain.Valuing and expecting for extrinsic goals, such as wealth and money are negatively correlated to global adjustment and well-being,it would detriment mental health, then the quality of life and social adaptation.Otherwise, relative centrality of intrinsic aspirations, for example personal growth, would enhance mental health and vigorous actions.Events and basic psychological needs affect individuals'selection of goals. The Purpose of this research was to revise two measurement tools of'goals and basic psychologic needs, to test the mediating effect of basic psychologic needs between negative life events and goal selection among high school and undergraduated students. In a sample of 768 participarts from high schools and universities, this study using questionnaire investigation method, utilizing SPSS16.0 and AMOS 4.0, to analyse the data, following conclusions were found:1,The reliability and validity of goals and basic psychologic needs questionnaires are good for high school and undergraduated students, these questionnaires could be used in future.2,There were no notable differences between female and male students on goal selection;the mean of students' E/I was lower than "1",that is a healthy kind of goals selection for they focus more on intrinsic than extrinsic ones;different from senior school students;undergraduated ones attach more importance to extrinsic goals.3,Negative life events had significantly positive correlation with E/I,wealth,fame and image;had notablely negative correlation with personal growth, meaningful relationships; and there was no remarkable relation with community contributions.4,E/I is a good index of goals selection because it is effective enough to negatively predict self well-being and learning engagement of students.5,The basic psychological needs of autonomy and relatedness were partial mediators between negative life events and E/I.6,The basic psychological needs didn't mediate the relationship of negative life events and extrinsic goals.Competence had significantly positive correlation with extrinsic goals.7,The psychological need of autonomy partially mediated the relationship of negative life events and goal of personal growth;and relatedness was partial mediator of negative life events and meaningful relationships.
