Exclamations are widely used in literatures and everyday conversations. Nevertheless, existing research on the Russian exclamations stops at the definition and means of expressions, thus there's a lack of deep and thorough study on it.The first problem to solve in the research of Russian exclamation is whether exclamations belong to the type of sentences categorized by their communicative purposes. According to a popular view in the current Russian research community, sentences are divided into declarative, interrogative and imperative sentences. Any sentence can be an exclamation if it conveys some emotions, which means all sentences are divided into two groups, emotional and unemotional, exclamations are those emotional ones. This categorization method is defective and can not apply to all sentences because expressing emotion and feeling is also one of communicative purpose. Based on the fact that exclamation sentences directly express the emotion and feeling of the speaker, they are considered to belong to the type of sentences categorized by their communicative purposes.Categorizing sentences does not necessarily mean to draw a distinction clearly between sentences, because there're typical and non-typical sentences in various sentence categories, the range and border of these categories are indistinct. This thesis is comprised of the abstract, the body and the conclusion. The abstract points out the object and range of research, the applicability, creativeness and value of this thesis. In the main body, first, the categorization problem and definition of modern Russian exclamations are discussed in theory:typical view points in the research of Russian exclamation sentences in the latter half of the twentieth century are elaborated and compared, the author also gives own definitions of those concepts. Second, the categorization of exclamations is sorted out from a semantic point of view. Third, Russian exclamations are analyzed in the form, morphology, syntax aspects. In the end, the communicative and textual functions of exclamations are studied. In the conclusion part, conclusive statements and the future of this research are pointed out.
