The Study On The Archaistic Ritual Bronze Vessels Of The Song Dynasty

The paper focuses on the archaistic ritual bronze vessels of the Song Dynasty (abbr. ARBVSD). The whole thesis falls into 4 chapters.Chapter I is a general discussion of ARBVSD. By all means, it makes a comprehensive re-exhibition of ARBVSD as many as possible, which involve three forms:unearthed vessels, handed down vessels, historical writings vessels. Among these vessels,101 vessels were made by Song Huizong,9 vessels was made by the government of Southern Song Dynasty,89 vessels were made by the folk of Southern Song Dynasty.Chapter II makes a typology research of ARBVSD. It sums up the classification of vessel shapes and decoration about ARBVSD, and analyses the number, position and content of inscription. The shape of ARBVSD can be divided into 15 kinds including ding, yan, li, etc.. The decoration of ARBVSD is of a wide variety, on one hand it has many traditional decorations of Sandai bronze vessels, on the other hand it adopts some new decoration form other material vessels. The inscription of different ARBVSD is in different place, and the number of the inscription is mainly between 20 and 40. We can draw a general format of these inscription which is "time+maker+produce+use+pray".Chapter III is the reason for the ARBVSD teeming in the Song Dynasty from below three factors:cultural factor, political factor and economic factor. In the enterprise of teeming ARBVSD in the Song Dynasty, scholar officials' collection and catalogue of bronzes lay a solid foundation for it, and ritual official's discovery about the difference between scholar officials' bronze vessels and the official vessels prompted it to come ture, and the support of the emperor provide it with great backing force. At the same time, economic value of ARBVSD makes the folk to develop the archaistic ritual bronze vessels.Chapter IV discusses the archaism and innovation of ARBVSD. The part sorts ARBVSD into Northern Song Dynasty vessels and Southern Song Dynasty vessels to argue the question. The Northern Song Dynasty bronze vessels' shape and decoration all made by Song Huizong are archaistic, we can find their prototypes in the Xuanhe Bogu Tu, Actually, they did not imitate totally, they have their own characters.. In the Sorthern Song Dynasty, some changes of ARBVSD had been made. They not only copy Sandai bronze vessels, but also copy the Han Dynasty bronze vessels,the folk vessels' decoration adopts some new decoration form other material vessels.In conclusion, this thesis makes a comparatively comprehensive analysis of ARBVSD, and also makes a specific study of the reason for the ARBVS teeming in the Sung and the archaism and innovation of ARBVSD.
