| Zhang Ling is the famous writer of New Immigrant Literature in North America. She is unique in the New Immigrant literature for her accurate grasp of the situation of the times in her excellent writings with a pen with Aura. Because of the broad cultural vision and rich connotation, her novels received widespread concern and well evaluation. The most obvious characteristic of her novel is to focus on the construction of New Immigrant images. Based on the text of her novels, this paper will analyze the characteristics of her novels'New Immigrant images in the view of New Immigrant Literature to reveal the characteristics of her writings.Under the influence of the wave of the globalization, cultural exchanges become more and more frequent in the world. As a new immigrant writer, Zhang Ling, who has experienced ten years of temper abroad, appreciates the world with a more peaceful mind. Her novels show us the New Immigrant images living in the original town and abroad. She lays the New Immigrant images in the context of Chinese and Western culture in order to shape three groups of characters of "Free" and "Roots"; "Transplantation" and "Breakthrough"; "Integration" and "Beyond". She shows us a colorful picture of characters' life by the presentation ways of "historical narrative", "two horizons" and "autobiographical writing". The characters she constructs are slowly fading cultural nostalgia and turn into "World citizen" rather than simple characters aboard.These New Immigrant images showed by Zhang Ling cross over the Chinese and Western cultures and search for the ideal of life and spirit of home, and at the same time penetrate the reconstruction of the "cultural identity" under heterogeneous context. Her novels increase a sense of calm and consideration and lessen a sense of accuse with more attention to the "human" itself and showing the characteristics of New Immigrant Literature because of the writer's open cultural vision and recognition of cultural diversity. |
