The Function Of The Modern Chinese Connected Component "X Shuo"

The conjoined element"X shuo"in modern Chinese is very common and important in texts. Based on synchronic and horizontal study, the thesis adopts the methods of categorical description, explanation, induction and deduction, employs by the means of discourse analysis, semantics and pragmatics, and carries out a detailed research of the usage of the conjoined elements like"X shuo".First, the thesis gives a comprehensive definition to the conjoined elements like"X shuo"from the perspective of semantics, discourse and pragmatics, provides a detailed classification and description of the conjoined elements like"X shuo"according to their grammatical characteristics, and finally constructs the semantic model of antecedents and sequence utterance for the conjoined elements like"X shuo".Second, the thesis classifies the conjoined elements like"X shuo"into two types: the type of propositions, the type of emotions. From these two perspectives, specific analyses on the discourse function of proposition are carried out.Finally, the thesis carries out a research on the contexts in which the conjoined elements like"X shuo"appear, the expressive function of the conjoined elements like"X shuo"and the collocation between the conjoined elements like"X shuo"and relative conjunctions and adverbs.
