Knowing about the space is a important part of knowing the world to hu-man being. Position words are a kind of language expression of knowing about the space. Although Korean and Chinese belong to different language family, t-hey both use Position words to express the basic relation of space. Frequency of using Position words in Korean and Chinese are high, we can find it in ou-rdaily life. This paper applied cognitive linguistics, pragmatics and grammar th-eory to contrastive analysis the space instruction in Korean and Chinese in or-der to find the similarity and individuality among regular expression, irregular expression, ellipsis and restraining factor.This paper consists of five parts.The first part is preface; it expounds the purpose and significance of resea-rch, research contents, scope, method and some explanation about corpus. This part introduces the general situation and contrastive research in Korean and Chi-nese.The second part contrasts the regular expression about Korean and Chinese space instruction in pragmatics, cognitive and grammar function. First, as beddi-ng, it introduces the assortment and space meaning in Korean and Chinese. Se-cond, when space words combine with other component part indicate space, it divides into combination of demonstrative pronoun and Position words, noun a-nd Position words, preposition and Position words to analysis the similarity an-d individuality of regular expression about space instruction in Korean and Chi-nese.The third part contrasts the irregular expression about space instruction in Korean and Chinese with cognitive view to discuss the metaphor problem in b-oth languages. Space metaphor consists of position metaphor and container me taphor. Position metaphor means the casting from space field to other cognitive field or target field. Human body can be regard as a container, people imagine something to container, and container metaphor is emerging. People casting the space concept to other field in order to obtaining the extension and abstract m-eaning of cognitive style. Although North Korea and china are neighboring co-untry, there are similarity and individuality in space metaphor. It related to the culture and mind in Korean and Chinese.The forth part briefly analysis the ellipsis and restraining factor of space i-nstruction in Korean and Chinese. First, it discusses the phenomenon of spacei-nstruction, and describes the space words, demonstrative pronoun and ellipsis of space preposition. Second, space instruction is influenced by the using of ve-rb, psychological factor and context. It contrast analysis the similarity and indi-viduality of ellipsis and restrict aspect in Korean and Chinese.The last part is conclusion. It summarizes the main viewpoint about the p-aper including the shortcomings. Hoping this paper can bring some inspirations and helping to practice about second language teaching and translation.
