Idiom is a very important component of both Chinese and Korean, which is brief, humorous, and full of irony. Some color-related idioms with rich meaning are pretty interesting, however, due to the natural environment, language habits, cultural background and many other factors, two languages are different in idiomatic expressions and metaphorical meaning, which leads to communication disorders when language learners learn the other language, especially for Korean students. In view of author’s personal experience, the paper is trying to indicate the similarities and differences by making a comparative study on color metaphor of idiom between Chinese and Korean, in the hope of providing a reference and reduce learner’s difficulties.China and South Korea scholars have done a lot of studies on idioms, comparing the similarities and differences in phrase structure, semantics, pragmatics, and made great progress. In addition, many scholars have studied Chinese and Korean cognitive system of color from a cultural view, noted that they have different cultural perception of color. Both studies achieved gratifying results, however, the author found that many Chinese color-related idioms are difficult to understandin study and practice. Therefore, we not only need to combine them and study the color-related words, but also introduce a perspective of metaphor. In such a way, the difficulties in understanding idioms and the color system can be solved, and learners can better understand and use them. There are six chapters in this paper, and the main ideas are as following:The first chapter is the introduction, which introduces the reason of choosing the topic and the significance of the study, explains the source of the corpus and the research methods, and points out the difficulties and innovations of the author. The second chapter is the summary of the research, which summarizes the research results of the scholars of China and Korea, and defines the scope of this study. The third chapter describes the definition and characteristics of Chinese and Korean idioms, from the aspects of the structure, semantics, pragmatics, and makes a comparison between the two sides. The fourth chapter introduces the color words in Chinese and Korean, defines the color category, and briefly expounds the metaphor theory. The fifth chapter is the main part of this paper, which analyzes idioms containing "red" and "black" and "white", "yellow", "green" five colors one by one, and identifies the target domain of the same entry, finally points out common comprehension. In addition, it focuses on the comparison between the entries with different domains. The sixth chapter is based on the above research results, draws some inspirations for Chinese language teaching and Chinese culture teaching. The final part is the conclusion, carries on the summary and the reflection of this article.
