Among the various elements of Chinese language, the vocabulary is the most closely connected with the social development, of which every little bit will be directly reflected in the vocabulary of a certain era.Therefore, the study of vocabulary has a great effect on the studies about social development, the changes of human thinking and these two factors' impact on the language.Language has its own mechanism for development, with the external social environment and internal factorsof the language promoting together, the development of vocabulary moves forward.The era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty is in the late of Pre-Qin period, which plays an important role in Chinese history. It is between the Spring and Autumn Period time meaning Ceremony Disintegration and the Western and Eastern Han Dynasties that saw the first peak of the development of Chinese feudal society.This paper tries to investigate the glossary phenomenon in the era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty and analysis the laws of the development of the vocabulary, in order to do a preliminary exploration about the vocabulary division of this period.The paper consists of the following parts:Preface. This part introduce the topic resource of the paper followed by the current research about the vocabulary, corpus handed down from ancient times and contents and methods of the study.The language materials in this thesis mainly comes from the The Great Chinese Dictionary, monosyllabic words consider the examples of Chinese characters Sea as an important supplement.After the scientific and systematic arrangemnet about corpus, this part pays special attention to the research about new words, new meanings, the dead words, and dead meaning in The Great Chinese DictionaryChapter One, introduction about the typical new words basic vocabulary reflecting social features of the era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty.This chapter mainly describes the face of social development reflected by the vocabulary of the certain period. Then, it make the words together with common characteristics or relationships to show the characteristics of a certain period, letting us have a more intuitive experience about this period.Meanwhile, the description on the basic vocabulary in this chapter contributes to a better understanding of the look of people's lives in The era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty. Chapter Two, the development of the monosyllabic words in the era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty.The monosyllabic words have advantages over others in ancient Chinese, therefore, the research about monosyllabic words must be the key part of the division study in this time.This chapter highlights the coinage basis of monosyllabic new words and the style and reason about the monosyllabic new meanings.Chapter Three, the development of polysyllabic words of the era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty.The late Pre-Qin period is a climax of polysyllabic words. This chapter tries to analyze the types of structure of the simple words and compound words in terms of the semantic level.Chapter Six, the dying words in the era from Warring States to the Qin Dynasty. It discusses this topic in three aspects to explore the reasons and forms about the dying words.We explore the the development model about vocabulary according to the last evolution about generation and disappearance of words. We analyze the syntax and the lexical structure about the the monosyllabic words and polysyllabic words in the total level.
