Urban Culture And Urban Development: Chengdu Experience

China is in the social transformation and the period of rapid urbanization, as economic globalization and growing urbanization, urban development has become an important field in urban study, besides culture has gone to the center of urban development and urban competition. Therefore, this paper integrates the two trends, uses the mechanism of urban culture as the core theory and then puts forward a new academic theme,"Urban Culture and Urban Development". Hope through the power of urban culture can help to achieve the sustainable development of the contemporary city.This paper concentrates on the theme of urban culture and urban development, based on the following logical order:asks questions, understands and analyzes problems, case studies, deepens the practical application to start discussion. First, based on traditional understanding, the first part presents three more practical way of understanding urban culture, which covers the ideological level, social level and economic level, and highlights the systematic, comprehensive grasp of the meaning of urban culture. Secondly, this part introduces the mechanism of culture to the association of urban culture and urban development, from the four way of embeddedness, catalysis and lubrication, material attraction and the direct economic effects to build a framework for mechanism of urban culture. Third, using empirical methods, this paper combs the cultural types and strategies of Chengdu and around four angles (the leisure culture and economic competition, cultural exhibition and exhibition economy, historical and cultural heritage and tourism economy, Chengdu's urban culture and city orientation) to do case studies. Last, the paper discusses the government policy on the impact of cultural and urban, trends of Chengdu cultural policy, and then summarizes the relevant experience and countermeasures, finally through these to practice the use of urban culture in depth.Culture is the soul of the city. In this paper, we use the most basic theory (the understanding and mechanism of urban culture) as a theoretical framework; use the application form of urban culture and cultural policy trends of Chengdu as flesh and blood, Step by step to deepen the study.
