Chinese Class Word Primitive - Interpretation Of The Same Field

The classifiers of Chinese language is the reflection of the process of categorizing in Chinese Language, which expresses the categories of things through depicting the image or the characters of the things. These words which have nothing to do with expressing the quantity of the things play a role in classifying different things into various categories.Based on the fact of Chinese itself, this study following the methods of semantic—grammatical theory and meta-language theory makes meta-language interpretations about the words of Chinese classifiers, by which we can understand the category of the classifiers from semantic aspect. We also build the mode of meta-language interpretation of the classifiers.First, this study makes a definition of Chinese classifier based on the previous research and gets the standard of identifying the classifiers. We select 271 basic Chinese classifiers from<The dictionary of Chinese language quantifier usage>, which are the object of our study. Then we divide the 271 basic classifiers into several semantic categories. There are two categories under the classifier terms--substantial classifiers and verbal classifiers, which are separated into some groups respectively. Last, taking the modern dictionary as a reference, we give a primitive definition to every basic classifier.The basic conclusions of my study:1.The Chinese quantifiers is a complicated word class. The classifiers of Chinese language is the reflection of the process of categorizing in Chinese Language. According to the theory of prototype categories, we choose two typical classifiers "dao" and "tiao" as the subject of the analysis of the process of categorizing, which helps to find the right way of semantic analysis.2. Following the methods of semantic—grammatical theory, we divide the basic classifiers into two semantic categories. They are substantial classifiers and verbal classifiers. There are 23 basic semantic unit.3.Taking the modern dictionary as a reference,we attempt to make use of Chinese basic words to interpret the classifiers in the same semantic subfield.Finally,we get 625 basic word for interpreting the Chinese classifiers.The study of Chinese classifiers helps to improve and prefect the system of mate-language interpretational research. It also provide certain materials for teaching Chinese classifiers as a foreign language.
