Ming and Qing Dynasties Hezhou district, Approximately being now Linxia Hui Autonomous Prefecture, is situated in the ecotone of Loess Plateau and Qihai-Tibet Plateau in south central Gansu. It has been an area where a number of nationalities live together including Qiang, Tuyuhun, Tibetan, Tangut and Xianbei since ancient times. A large number of Han, Hui, Saer Ta (the Dongxiang nationality ancestors) nationalities have moved into Hezhou district where native Tibetan were since the Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties. Modern setup of mixed nationalities are formed in Hezhou district. The rulers of past dynasties have attached great importance to the governance and development in this area because of its special strategic status. The thesis illustrates systematically the complicated political situation and special strategic status in the Ming and Qing dynasties. It sums up the achievements before the Ming and Qing dynasties when developing Hezhou area. The thesis make a summary about the military and political strategies to Hezhou district and its application in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The measures and effects of developing agriculture and animal husbandry are presented and discussed systematically in The Ming and Qing dynasties. And it makes a preliminary research on agricultural and animal technology, production tools,livestock species as well as tribute trade and Chama Trade. The thesis summarizes that developing agriculture and animal husbandry brought to Hezhou district social economic effects and ecological effects within this period time of the Ming and Qing dynasties. The study will provide historical reference for developing this district.
