Moral motivation has been defined as individuals' readiness to abide by a moral rule they understand to be valid, even when this rule is in conflict with nonmoral desires. Studying moral motivation of middle school students can understand the psychological development of current students, promote their moral education and character development and rich aspects of moral psychology and so on.In this study, we put forward the theory of moral motivation based on the literature and questionnaire, develop the questionnaire and investigate and analysis the development of middle school students' moral motivation. The aims are:(1)using exploratory factor analysis to study the structure of students'moral motivation; (2)preparing the questionnaire of moral motivation; (3)exploring the characteristics of middle school students' moral motivation; (4)intervening middle school students' moral motivation. The results are as follows:(1)According to the theoretical conception, we find that secondary school students' moral motivation includes self-serving and altruism, gratitude, responsibility, respect and identity. And the dimension of self-serving and altruism includes reconciliation and cooperation, altruism, initiative and self-control, the dimension of gratitude includes thanksgiving and empathy.(2)The preparation of the questionnaire has good reliability and validity and can be used as an evaluation tool for students' moral motivation.(3)The average score of middle school students' moral motivation is 2.01 which is in the middle and upper level and has relative balance between the dimensions.(4)The average scores of middle school students' moral motivation have differences on factors of gender, cadre or not, age and grade, good or bad mood, and have no difference on factors of origin, only child or not, living with parents or not, family economic status and educational background of parents. Students from different places and only child have remarkably differences on factors of responsibility and initiative, students living with parents or not have differences on the factors of self-serving and altruism and responsibility, economic situation influences the score of students' thanksgiving, and parents' educational background don't influence children' moral motivation.(5)Intervention is effective to improving middle school students' moral motivation. Compared with controlled group, the scores of experimental group are higher on factors of responsibility, compromise and cooperation, self-control and empathy.
