The Research Of "BU X" Structure Lexicalization

In contemporary Chinese language, there is a category of words with "不+X" structure, which appeared not in the form of words initially but phrases in ancient times. However, due to the long-term utility in language, these phrases with "不+X" structure showed the usage of words sooner or later and are still used in modern Chinese. This thesis will choose such frequently-used words as"不满"(not satisfactory),"不错"(good),"不测"(unpredictable),"不免"(inevitable),"不禁"(can't help),"不得"(have to),"不料"(unexpectedly) as objects of study, examining their formation years and explaining the reasons behind them from synchronic and diachronic points of views. These words can be divided into five categories, including adjectives, nouns, adverbs, auxiliaries and conjunctions.The whole thesis is divided into five parts.The first chapter is introduction, which includes the purpose and significance of the research, the scope and contents of the research, research method and linguistic data sources as well as correlational research status quo of previous researchers and so on.The second chapter is the diachronic examination of the lexicalization of the"不X" structure phrases. First of all, the standard of the lexicalization of the"不X" structure phrases should be determined and then the examination of the lexicalization of the"不X" structure phrases and its evolution will be made from diachronic points of view.Chapter 3 includes the synchronic analyses on the lexicalization of the"不X" structure phrases, which mainly describes the syntactic and semantic representation of"不X" structure phrases in modern Chinese from synchronic points of view and shows the performance of the lexicalization of"不X" structure phrases in synchronic state.The fourth chapter includes the impetus and mechanism of the lexicalization of the"不X" structure phrases. The formation reasons of the"不X" structure phrases will be given from such perspectives as the bisyllablization tendency of Chinese, the prosodic features, syntactic structure and cognitive angles of Chinese.The last chapter is conclusion, which makes summary of the whole thesis and points out the research shortcomings of this thesis and puts forward the orientation of later research.
