Lexicalization is an important aspect of language evolution, it has become the focusof linguistic at home and abroad in recent years. Lexicalization about Chinese have madesubstantial progress these yeas. Books and papers about Chinese lexicalization havesprung up which enriches the theory. In this paper, it based on "zong"words, studies onthe "zonggui、zonggong、zongzhi", describe their lexicalization process through thecomprehensive study of corpora, make sure when they are being words and describe theirpragmatic functions in modern Chinese, analysis their motivations and mechanism. Thereason of choosing adverbs and conjunctions is that language changes often happen inmany cases, and function of adverbs and conjunctions is connection, so this chapterconnection effect makes the two types of composition closely related to the word, somakes adverbs and conjunction being the faster language elements of updating, which areeasy to be lexicalization. The whole thesis will be divided into seven parts:The first part,"Introduction", introduced the presents theories of lexicalization andanagrammatization and the contents of adverbs and conjunctions of "zong"words, instruct the research methods、theoretical basis and research significance, and theresource of corpus. The second chapter focuses on the diachronic development of the meaning of "zong"and find that it is used as a verb in original, as the elements after it become complicated, the syntactic position and function has been evolved, so the meaning of "zong" haschanged in different periods and has the possibility of lexicalization, at the same time itlaid a foundation for analysis of "zonggui、zonggong、zongzhi".The three chapter, four chapter and five chapter, separately inspected the evolutionof "zonggui""zonggong""zongzhi". Firstly, examining their syntax semantics in modernChinese, find that they are used as adverbs and conjunctions in modern Chinese. Thenby collecting a large number of corpus, explore the use as a phrase or trans-layeredstructure, study its lexicalization process from the diachronic perspective, and find thatthe lexicalization of "zonggui" is from Chinese style s phrases to a adverb,"zonggong" isfrom trans-layered structure to a adverb. Then respectively analyses the three pragmaticfunctions in modern Chinese. The six chapter mainly analyses the motivation and mechanism of lexicalizationfrom the language itself, pragmatics and psychology, interpret the reason of lexicalization. They may have the possibility of lexicalization if itself has changed in sound, semotacticand surface structure. Pragmatic factors like pragmatic inference, absorption of thecontext and simplification of structure make speech form gradually become lexicalization;Metaphor, pattern grouping and reanalysis provide the theoretical base for lexicalizationin cognitive.
