Three Aspects Of Study On Liu Cang's Poetry

Liu Cang is a poet who is famous for Lvshi (regulated poems) in the late Tang Dynasty. As we know little about his living, we can't study his poetry totally and comprehensively. But the influence of his work has never been cut off, so further and comprehensive study on the meaning of literature history of his works has become an important part that we can understand the poetry in the late Tang Dynasty.This thesis chooses LiuCang's poetry as the target for research.Firstly, all versions of Liu Cang's poetry will be collected, which is the foundation of the study. Then the poetry will be collated, commenedt and evaluated, which can form a arranged version. On this basis, the thesis will continue to further study LiuCang's poetry from the following aspects:Firstly, from the viewpoint of acceptive history of literature, though Liu Cang's poetry are not comprehensively commented and cited in successive dynasties, many of the poetry anthologyies prefer to select and explain some parts of his poems, which forms a unique scenery of acceptiven history of Liu Cang's poetry. This thesis will deduce and analyse the"selected poems"of Liu Cang in the various Tang poetry anthologies which can be collected before Qing Dynasty. This can show the acceptive situations of renowned poems by Liu Cang according to the statistics method.Secendly, Liu Cang has many poems about Chang'an and Luoyang, which are the two capital cities of Tang Dynasty. The relationship of Liu Cang and the capital cities is very close. And the poems about these two captitals in poets have occupied a very important position. Now, this field is still uncultivated.This thesis mainly chooses the poems of Liu Cang as the target for research that are concerned with Chang'an and Luoyang. This can help us know the poet's activities in the two capitals and how the specific customs and experiences of Liu Cang in the two capitals can influence his poemcreating, which can show the rich emotions of the poems in the late Tang Dynasty on the two capital cities.Thirdly, there are a lot of images in Liu Cang's poems:natural images such as apes, communis, geese, moss, crane, cicada;historical figures such as Qu Yuan, Fu Chai, Cao Cao; and historical events such as Qin Dynasty's and Sui Dynasty's ruining appearing in his poems repeatedly. Although this topic has been studied by former scholars, its research is not comprehensive. The thesis will study natural and humanistic images comprehensively existing in Liu Cang's poems,investigate the poet's creative mentality and course in the late Tang Dynasty. Besides,the thesis can reflect the unique style of the late Tang Dynasty's poetry by studying the images.
