The current way of designing the new Lexical-teaching model in elementary Chinese intensive curriculum is word-oriented,which makes the Chinese learners get used to perceive words as a unit, and lack of the awareness of features of Chinese characters,namely,"morphology","phonology"and "semantics" are independent ones that have their own meanings.As a result,the learning of Chinese characters are often inefficient, which also leads to the inefficiency of words learning. Based on these present situations,this thesis mainly studies the 30 cases in the elementary Chinese intensive reading curriculum, from which abstracting the 8 major steps of the current lexical-teaching model.They are the preview of class, preparation checking,new words presentation,reorganization,explanation, practice,summarization and homework . Moreover , based on the advantages and disadvantages of current lexical teaching models,this paper shifts the emphases from words to the Chinese character and proposes a new method of teaching which is relying on the Chinese characters to enlarge vocabulary.Then,combining the Chinese characters-oriented theory with cognitive theory to prove its feasibility.In its practical application,this thesis try to combine the teaching of Chinese characters with the teaching of words and grammar which are the main content in current intensive reading class,so as to help the elementary learners gain the awareness of specific relations between Chinese characters and words as well as improve the efficiency of words learning.
