Research Of Li Gang's Military Thoughts

Li Gang, as a representative of party favoring war during the occasion from the Northern Song Dynasty to the Southern Song Dynasty, advocated defending the invasion of Jin in his entire life. He strongly appealed to the imperial court announcing his military thoughts in a situation the kingdom threatened by both internal and external affairs. Reinforcing armament, developing military force and integrating the military and strategic theory in troop combat experience. Previous scholar researches of Li Gang were mainly focused on his certain activities in defending the invasion of Jin and his poetry. This paper selected Li Gang's military thoughts as the research object and systematically analyzed Li Gang's military strategic thoughts, tactical thoughts and associated practical experience. The article was divided into four sections: The first section started with Li Gang's family background and politic career and then discussed the basis of initiation of Li Gang's military thoughts. The second section used the"Strengthen Military"as the entry point to explore Li Gang's military strategic thoughts of military force stocking, risk elimination, recruitment, training of military administration and combined development of literature and martial arts in a macro perspective. The third section demonstrated the tactical thoughts of Li Gang in addressing various situations and dealing with such situations in a flexible way. The fourth section, used a series of particular military measurements posed by Li Gang as the object, discussed the influence of Li Gang's military thoughts in his political activities. This paper argues that Li Gang's military thoughts reflected Li Gang's political aspiration of"Protect the country, protect the lives", which is an important formation part of his ideological system. Through this research, the understanding of Li Gang himself and the political situation during the occasion from the Northern Song Dynasty to the Southern Song Dynasty can be promoted to a higher level.
