Foreignizing translation and domesticating translation are the extension of literal translation and free translation. These methods have been the focus of discussion in the translation field for many years and are especially applicable in the field of idiom translation. Through the use of several translation examples from The Everything HR Kit: A Complete Guide to Attracting, Retaining, and Motivating High-Performance Employees, this paper will introduce the basic theory of the two translation methods, discuss the differences between the methods and the advantages of each, and then conclude that these two methods should coexist and are complementary rather than contradictory.
