With the increasingly deeper development of economic globalization, enterprises in China and other countries around the world are engaging in international business transactions more and more frequently. As is known to all, signing business contracts constitutes a crucial part of the international business activities that take place between enterprises. Therefore, it's easy to understand why enterprises around the world place more emphasis on the translation of business contracts than ever before. However, it's worth noting that some common mistakes often occur in the translation of business contracts. These common mistakes not only undermine the legality of the business contracts they appear in, but they are a source of legal loopholes that have the potential to cause disputes that will be a huge financial burden to either party involved. Considering how important it is to avoid making these mistakes in translating business contracts, the author of the thesis attempts to classify the common mistakes in the translation of business contracts, analyze the reasons behind it and propose possible solutions and translation strategies to help avoid these mistakes. The author of the thesis starts with introducing the overall stylistic features of English business contracts and the barriers towards the proper translation of Chinese business contracts, in hopes of laying a theoretical foundation for the case analysis to be covered below. After that, the author bases his study on the actual Chinese contract he dealt with to point out the common mistakes in the translation of Chinese business contracts by the methods of classification and example citing, analyze the reasons for these mistakes in question and propose some feasible measures to avoid them to achieve a formal and standardized English business contract. In the final analysis, the author makes a thorough summary of the whole thesis and draw plausible conclusions from it.
