A Practice Report On The Translation Of Business Contracts

This report analyzes and summarizes the translation of three different business contracts of a certain trade company. The language of these contracts is featured with rigorous wording, complicate sentence structure and strong logicality. The author believes that a research on the translation of such type of text is of great value for future reference.This thesis focuses on the translation of international business contract from the perspective of Skopos theory. Skopos theory regards the Skopos rule as the top-ranking rule, therefore, different from traditional down-top translation approach, the Skopos theory holds the top-down method by which the translators have more freedom to choose the most appropriate strategy according to translation.In the report, the author provides a comprehensive analysis of typical problems encountered in the translation process and proposes effective strategies and solutions to them. The work of the translator before, during and after translation is also elaborated.The Skopos Theory and Internet translation tools are also applied to the whole translation process. This report analyzes the general issues and difficulties appeared in business contract translation and comes up with some solutions based on typical case studies. By applying the translation theory to practice, summarizing and concluding experience from practice, the author attempts to provide a few ideas and some translation strategies for business contract translation.With a relatively thorough analysis of the thesis, the author demonstrates that Skopos theory can be applied effectively to guide international business contract translation.
