Yi Typical Patterns Study

The culture of Yi Nation is an important part of Chinese culture. This article analyse the typical patterns of Yi Nation - tiger pattern, claw pattern, sun pattern, fire pattern, gourd pattern in details. Research the origin, evolution and cultural connotation of these five typical patterns, then conclude their basic features through the rule of formal beauty. Unscramble the image of visual symbols and symbols'semantic interpretations of Yi Nation's typical patterns according to Semiology. The image visual symbol system includes simple reproduction mode, comprehensive indication mode, abstract geometry mode. It expresses good meaning including adoration, removing disaster bringing lucky and so on. This paper analyzes the application mode and deformation pattern method of the five typical patterns. Yi Nation's typical patterns are applied widely with varied changes. But these changes have their characters. These characters become the main method to represent Yi Nation's patterns'changes. Catching hold of these characters becomes the main clue to design Yi Nation's patterns, which provide cultural support and design direction guidance for current design applications and do good to represent the nationality and speciality of design, present special visual art effect and heritage its cultural connotation of Yi Nation.This paper study the principles, methods and application examples of Yi Nation's typical patterns in the modern design application based on the research of Yi Nation's typical patterns. In the applications, based on the principle of keeping the original cultrual flavor and developing new Yi Nation's patterns, besides the direct use method and indirect use method, we also use reconstruction method, restructuring method, displacement method and predigestion method. Take examples to study how to keep and inherit typical patterns, then at the same time, combined with modern design theory and modern technology development, form a design style with Yi Nation's character which represent the application value and art charm of Yi Nation's patterns in the modern design. Flexible using of various methods will yield a effect not only inheriting Yi Nation's culture but also enriching modern design, which promotes symbol consumption and economic development.
