"Chinese Dictionary"is a historical canon of Chinese language as well as the most extensive compendium of Chinese vocabulary. Based on the editorial guidelines of"integrating the ancient and modern Chinese words, taking all schools into accounts", the text consists of twelve volumes. In all there are more than 370, 000 items and approximately 50 millions words, relating to the society, military matters, customs and culture and other perspectives. The containing words are complete in meaning and items, rich in content, succinct in style, clear and correct in definition. And they can exactly meet the requirements of the dictionary of scientificness, informativeness and stability. As soon as the book was published, it has always been the most important frame of references in the study of the history of Chinese vocabulary. "Chinese Dictionary" has also been praised by academia as the archives of Chinese vocabulary of present and past."Chinese Dictionary "has been highly praised by the academic circle ever since the publication of the first volume in 1986. However, the key state projects has only taken for over two decades since the upfront input of arrangements for staff doing a series of preparatory work and the publication of the whole twelve volumes. Thus due to time, substance, energy and other factors, "Chinese Dictionary" has failed to reach perfection. As it has obtained the achievement which attracts wide attention, simultaneously it also has accumulated many inevitable errors. They are mainly embodied in the original materials, interpretation, inaccurate citing and a few errors."Chinese Dictionary", as a large high-quality language reference book, has become highly valued by academia since its first publication. It is quite convenient for our study and research so that we can benefit a lot. But "even the wise are not always free from error", so is"Chinese Dictionary". After the debut of"Chinese Dictionary", readers and researchers have found some questions which are well worth discussing as time goes on. A large number of experts and scholars at home have constantly revised"Chinese Dictionary" in many ways, striving for its excellence and accuracy. As a wide-ranging, diachronic language dictionary, the traceable illustrated cases and exact definitions make great contributions to the changes in vocabulary and semantics, being important aspects to ensure its scientificness. With respect to the Chinese character"Fu"in volume 11 of "Chinese Dictionary", the writer of this thesis attempts to give a certain amount of modification and addition to its insufficiency, to perfect the Chinese character, to make a contribution to learning and researching, to provide the reference to editors and readers, as well as the revision "Chinese Dictionary" in the future, at the same time, your comments and suggestions are welcomed.
