The Application Of Chinese Paper Cutting In Modern Graphic Design

Chinese paper cutting is one of the major components of Chinese traditional art, and it consists of comprehensive graphic component elements. The comparative research on paper cutting and graphic design will deepen the understanding on the value of Chinese traditional art, and furthermore the graphic design can also borrow the forms and elements from Chinese paper cutting to enrich and expand the ways of its artistic expression. How to combine the elements of Chinese paper cutting and the concepts of modern graphic design, and how to make use of the Chinese paper cutting to help design extraordinary and indigenous art works, are worthwhile for consideration and practice for every artist.To fulfill this study, the methodology is based on literature review and case study, by looking into, analyzing, practicing and concluding the current theories in this field and typical paper cutting art works. Eventually the conclusion from this research on the elements of Chinese paper cutting will make contribution to the design of unique, indigenous and modern graphic design works.
