The Research Of Narrative Characteristics Of Hong Kong TV Drama

Hong Kong TV drama does not only function as entertainment for Hong Kong people,but also shows its great influences in areas where ethinic Chinese reside all over theworld.'Huo Yuanjia'--the first TV drama imported from Hong Kong in 1980s,have resulted ina hot discussion as soon as it was shown on TV. More and more Hong Kong TV drama havebeen imported in 1990s. Up till now, Hong Kong TV drama has been widely accepted byChinese audience, and attracted a large amount of HK TV drama fans.Guided by the TV drama narrative theory, this thesis adopts the TV drama contentanalysis method to reach a summary of the narrative charateristics of Hong Kong TV drama.Starting from looking into the local culture enprinted in Hong Kong TV dramas, thisthesis tries to find out what has been attributed to the local social spirit as well as how thespirit has been presented in Hong Kong TV dramas through examining the history, economyand culture of Hong Kong, aiming at disclosing the nature of the Hong Kong narrative culturaembedded in Hong Kong TV drama.Secondly, to explain the entertainization and commercialization of Hong Kong TVprograms, this thesis reaches a conclusion about the narrative characteristics of Hong KongTV drama through looking into the narrative keynote, pace, structure and writing skills. Inaddition, this thesis demostrates these characteristics by briefly analyzing three kinds ofrepresentative drama--kung fu TV drama, professional TV drama and life TV drama, givingbrief analysis of the main figures molded in these TV dramas.Finally, adopting a dynamic perspective, the thesis introduces the new trend of thedevelopment of the narrative characters of Hong Kong TV drama based on the analysis of itscurrent charaters.
