Except the word"profound", we have no more suitable words to describe the Chinese traditional culture.Our ancestors left us a valuable and rich cultural heritage,such as the coloured pottery of primitive times; the bronze work of the Spring and Autumn Period; the lacquerware, tiles, stone, brick, stone paintings and silk of the han dynasty ; the calligraphy, painting and Buddhist culture rising of the Jin and North & South dynasty; the poetry; Tang Sancai ceramics of the tang dynasty; the china, poetry of the song and yuan dynasties; the blue and white porcelain of the ming and qing dynasties,and so on.In the 80s, the development of Chinese modern design was learn, imitation and worship of western. The most evident of this study is Chinese art curriculum setup in Colleges and universities, which taked the modern European design concept that was originated from the Germany Bauhaus. At the same time, the industry of modern design from all walks of life were streaming into China, and the western are popular simple design, so it became the learning standards about modern design" modern" for us at that time.In the 90s, the Chinese modern design was fully blossom, gained ground in the round, but still followed the West walk up to the stage, did not integrated their with the Chinese culture,Chinese products,Chinese commerce. But in the 90s, the biggest impact to the modern design is the popularization of computer technology, modern design has a good tools, which made many designers with might doubled. In the late 90s, modern design bid farewell to hand-painted era, began to enter the computer age.In twenty-first Century, the modern design came into the information age. In which the network technology and network culture rise quickly. The modern design finally understand simple learning from the west is backward, must produce oneself advantage is the design development in learning from the west after twenty years. Designers began to look for our own culture, began to create their own modern design. A symbolic design, Beijing 2008 Olympic Games emblem and related design, is the truly one bring the modern design into the Chinese culture, Chinese products and the business environment. The embodiment of the Chinese elements in the Olympic Games Chinese mark, Olympic venues and other related to the Olympic Games, let the world understand China. We finally understand, the nation is the world, we should make our own national culture attribute of modern design.Our diligent and wisdom ancestors, at their time created their own age brilliant culture proudly in the world, and also meet the material needs of the age of them. When the time steps into our life now, people's lifestyle changes, aesthetic standards changes, and our living environment changes. The Chinese traditional culture in the world cultural system deeply, should achieve its new value in the modern society, not only put the cultural heritage away unheeded and we also immerse fish for fame.We should make the traditional culture in the modern design play its due.Chinese modern design begins from eighty time, has developed already full thirty years, modern design changes from the beginning of learning to imitate the west, to pursuit individuality and innovation in twenty-first Century. In recent years, more and more design work began the pursuit of national culture grade, began to study how combine the traditional culture union, this is a good trend of the design development. After our country joins WTO, international cooperation closely, product trade exchange more and more developed, this provide a strong platform for us to open the doors of the exchange.Chinese traditional culture is long to form an independent and complete cultural system, but since the Opium War, the 140 years of social situation of China, Chinese culture in this period appeared serious dating, the development of Chinese culture with the world is seriously out of line. Although this period Chinese traditional culture is still difficultly moving forward , there are also produced a lot of cultural products and cultural celebrity, Chinese modern design in this event almost no growth of the soil, and the western modern culture, modern art, modern design are in the development stage, Chinese modern design was dropped by European far behind. In this case, now we have to learn from the west.However, when we learn from the west, we should make clear the purpose of our study. The western culture and modern design should not been taken as our aesthetic standard, and should be used to make up for our culture and modern design development gaps and holes, provide Chinese culture and Chinese modern design for nutrition and vitamins, the key is keep China traditional aesthetic standards and philosophy system unchanged, for our own development and transition.The nation is the world. Our Chinese culture is deep and broad, and countries in the world worship Chinese civilization since ancient times. Our culture, is the base for our products is accepted by the world, and is our foundation for ourself development.If Chinese culture and the products be moved toward the world, we do the modern design, whether graphic design or other designs, must return to Chinese traditional culture, let the world understanding of China, the Chinese culture, the understanding. of Chinese products, which is our generation designers` mission.This paper focuses on Chinese traditional culture cognition and examine, through graphic design logo design, poster design, packaging design, book design to elaborate the application of the Chinese traditional cultural symbols in modern graphic design.
