By employing case study, exemplification and inductive approach, the author discusses the politics of translation in YanFu's translated version of"She Hui Tong Quan"from three aspects—politics'impact on translation motivation, selecting the original and translation strategies. The classic translation of"She Hui Tong Quan"is treated as the research object. After analyzing the impact of ideology, dominant poetics and patrons on translation, the inseparable relationship between translation behavior and political factors are presented, especially the impact of politics on translation. It is found out in the study that ideology (including dominant ideology and the translator's ideology) influences the translator's motivation, selecting the original and translation strategies directly and indirectly; dominant poetics mainly influences the translation strategies, especially the selection of literary form; the impact of patrons is presented by selecting the original, their economical support on the publication and their impact on translator's poetics, values and so on. In a word, translation, as a cross-cultural behavior, is not made in a vacuum. In the translation process, politics always plays a role in translation motivation, selection of the original and translation strategies.
