The theory of action control was put forward by Kuhl in 1980 which refers to the processes that enable individuals to enact their intentions or goal, despite the presence of competing action tendencies. Based on the previous researches, the current research aimed to revise the scale of action control in college students and examine the influence of emotion to working memory span, as well as the moderating effect of the action control. By using the questionnaire and the experiment, the results showed that:1. Revised scale of action control has 27 items and 3 dimensions named"preoccupation","hesitation", and"volatility". Except of the volatility, reliabilities of other dimensions are from 0.71 to 0.73.2. The influence of the emotion to working memory span was significant. In the positive emotion, students'working memory spans were significantly higher than the neutral emotion. In the negative emotion, students'working memory spans were significantly lower than the neutral emotion.3. In three conditions (positive, neutral and negative emotion), action oriented students'working memory spans have no significant differences. But state oriented students'working memory spans have significant differences in the same conditions. Especially, the influences of the negative emotion to state oriented students'working memory spans were significant.4. Variance analysis showed that the interaction between emotion and working memory span was significant. That means action control is the moderator between emotion and working memory span.
