Comparative Study On US And China Movies' War Narrative In Commercial Context

Chinese early war films had been influenced by United States and former Soviet Union war movies. Chinese war films also improved so much and got a brilliant achievement. But most of them are emphasized on political propaganda. As for the narration, subject matter and the technique have increasingly narrowed. US and China both share the same question. Hollywood blockbusters explore a beneficial way. Our Chinese war movies have been exploring positively, such as Hands up,Nanjing Nanjing,The Assembly and so on. But the audience and the critics also have different views. How to balance the better narration and winning the viewers, but also promote mainstream values, are the main problem.According to David Bordwell's narrative theory, the narration contains story, plot, structure and style and so on. Based on the upper three aspects analysis, Saving Private Ryan and Assembly are searching their own way in story structure of causal relation and occasional causal relationship. Schindler's List and Nanjing Nanjing are separately constructing the humanistic in war. The former one has causal relation, but the latter one's is fragmented. Inglourious Basterds and hands up are showing the vengeance of wars in a spoof way. Some plots close or have nothing to do with the story weaken the sense of story and different effects on the movies.
