Minimal Music, which is also called Repetitive Music, pursues simplification on the materials of music to save music materials. Composers produce works of music with materials as few as possible and the repetitive character of these works is a new reform and attempt on the technology of music creation to avoid repetition of rhythm and pitch under twelve-tone system. It's a style of pursuing simplification.Terry Reily , La Monte Young , Philip Glass , Steve Reich and John Adams are five representative composers of Minimal Music. The impressions of their music are usually considered to be extremely refined with music materials, simple with melody and harmony. Their main characters are Static harmony, Repetition structure, Additive process and phase-shifting.The author of this article tries to make some primary exploration on technology of composition of Minimal Music and list some application of this music in some other music fields by analyzing works of these representative composers and some main characters of this music. Minimal Music may be limited and facing an embarrassed situation right now, but it is a completely new thinking model and an important link to the development of modern music.
