Writing is known as the most difficult one amongst the four language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the process of acquisition of a second foreign language. As the unprecedented development of the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language in China, the conventional notion of teaching methods of listening and speaking has been dispelled in the Chinese language teaching for overseas students, gradually ushering in a trend of balanced development of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Compared with the other courses in the Chinese teaching, the teaching of writing and the related textbooks are characterized by a fairly late start of research on the teaching and the relatively lagging research on the textbooks; therefore, the present situation has proven incapable of meeting the demands from the advancing teaching practice of Chinese. On the basis of my realization of the importance and necessity of the research on the textbooks for writing in the Chinese teaching as a foreign language, the comparative analysis method and language material sampling analysis method are applied in this paper, which studies two intermediate textbooks, i.e.《Chinese Writing Tutorial》and《A Practical Chinese Writing Course for Foreigners》, to explore the problems existing in the present textbooks.The paper consists of five chapters.Chapter 1 is an introductory one, mainly describing the background, scope, methods and meaning of the research.Chapter 2: the importance of writing in the teaching of Chinese is analyzed, while paying attention to the unique characteristics of, difficulties in and present situation of the writing courses for overseas students.Chapter 3: the role is pointed out that textbooks play in the teaching of writing, by concluding and summarizing the present textbooks.Chapter 4:《Chinese Writing Tutorial》and《A Practical Chinese Writing Course for Foreigners》are compared in a specific manner. Chapter 5: the research of this paper is summarized and the prospect of the compilation of future writing textbooks of the Chinese teaching is speculated.The paper studies all the parts of《Chinese Writing Tutorial》and《A Practical Chinese Writing Course for Foreigners》, in the hope of working as a possible reference for the research, compilation and publication of the future writing textbooks of the Chinese teaching.
