Free Normal Stereotype And Its Impact On Self-esteem

Abstract/Summary:
Objective:In this paper, we measured the implicit and explicit of stereotype of the tuition-free normal college students and searched the variatio mechanism of self-esteem of the tuition-free normal college students under the conditions of threat.Research methods:This study used free association test,K-B characteristics measurement and Garder stereotype strength measurement to measure576subjects' explicit stereotype;used SC-IAT test to measure100sujects'implicit stereotypes.we obtained the stereotype of the tuition-free normal college students through explicit stereotypes and implicit stereotype; we simulated the condition of stereotype threat, researched the self-esteem changes of120subjects under stereotype threat situations,using Rosenberg sclf-csteem Scale, the collective self-esteem scale and implicit self-seteem SC-IAT test.The results:(1)The tuition-free normal stereotype words that recognition rate higher than50%in two groups contains future teachers, education, national policy, and more girls, free, directed to support education, grass-roots work, responsibility, dedication, stable, simple, knowledge, love, steadfast, youth, confused, not freedom, opportunity, thrift, diligence, poverty and remote.(2) Tuition-free Normal students recognition14material vocabulary are tuition-free normal stereotype words, the words score more than median3and has significantly difference, p <0.01; community groups recognition4material vocabulary are tuition-free normal stereotype words, the words score more than median3and has sigificantly differece,P <0.01; tuition-free normal students's score in the positive dimension of the stereotype (t=7.34, p <0.01), the negative dimension (t=8.15, p <0.01) and overall score (t=8.75, p <0.01) were significantly higher than that of the community groups.(3)Implicit stereotype SC-IAT test of two groups, the D value of tuition-free normal students groups average score is0.24; the community average D value is0.04; after t test found that community groups D value significantly lower than that of free normal group average t=-5.27, p<0.01. (4)In stereotype threat situations, the experimental group, individual self-esteem score (M=31.64) is higher than the control group score (M=28.21), with significant difference t=4.47, p<0.01;the experimental group of collective self-esteem score (M=89.59) is higher than the control group (M=61.50), with significant difference t=17.64, p<0.01;experimental group test D values (M=0.37) is higher than the control group D (M=0.28), non-significant difference t=1.55, p=0.13.Conclusion:(1) There exists the stereotype for the tuition-free normal college students objectively and has a positive tendency.The stereotype of the tuition-free normal college students includs the recognition on the special status of the tuition-free normal college students and the core characteristics which contains the hard work, stability, dedication, and illiberality.(2) the tuition-free normal college students'stereotype has intergroup differences. The tuition-free normal college students has more detailed, richer inter-group stereotype,while the community groups has more generalized stereotype.(3)The stereotype threat damage individual self-esteem, while under the threat situation,collective self-esteem and implicit self-esteem play a compensation role.stereotype threat not only caused the decline of the subjects' behavioral achievement,but also has an effect on the mind.the effect of self-esteem compensation mainly is the compensation of collective self-esteem...
