Yun Gee is a overseas Chinese artist who have made important achievements in the exploration of Western modernist painting in the first half of the20th century, all his life he wandered from place to place, the concept of conflict and integration between two different cultures of East and West was reflected in his works. The main purpose of this article is to restore the original real-life situation of Yun Gee's art world. Although he was gradually forgotten, Yu n Gee is a hardy pioneer in exploring the exchange of eastern art and Western art. To this end, the article's discusses is based on the artistic practice of Yun Gee. First, the article will explore the evolution of his painting and the characteristics of each stage, in this part, his unique "Diamondism" is described as the focus; second, this part was divided into three aspects to look into the underlying causes of the formation of his artistic characteristics. The three aspects are the traditional Chinese culture, the modern Western ideology and the psychological changes brought about by the individual occupying a foreign country; the last part try to make a proper judge about Yun Gee's significance in the modern painting history. This article come to this conclusion:the changing of the painting style of Yun Gee reflects the spirit of constantly exploration, his "diamondism" theories broaden the scope of the modernist movement in the20th century, in the same time,among those Chinese artist who had studied and sojourned in western countries, not only was he the best one who understood the painting language and theory of western avant-garde art.but also he was one of the earliest forerunners who expressed the spirit of Chinese art in the oil painting.
