Man Warm Typical Village Dai Brocade Technique Productive Protection

Brocade is a traditional Dai folk handicraft with a long history, superb technique and very distinct national characteristics, it is the witness of Dai history and the important carrier of Dai culture. Therefore, it is with a high artistic, cultural and research value. In2008, Dai brocade technique was included in the second batch of national intangible cultural heritage protection list.There are many kinds of Dai brocades. In the past, the Dai people's clothes, food, shelter, travel and religious activities were inseparable from the Dai brocade, the use and dissemination of brocade technique was wide. However, same with many other non-material cultural heritages, with the accelerated process of global economic integration, the exchange, interaction and collision of different cultures are becoming more and more frequent, the protection, inheritance and development of the Dai brocade technique is also facing unprecedented challenges. Especially in recent years, with Dai social development changes and the influence and impact of alien cultures, the mode of production, lifestyle and thinking of the Dai people has also undergone profound changes, the use of Dai brocade is shrinking and the market demand is greatly reduced, old artists have passed away one by one, the young people do not want to learn brocade, the heritage of the brocade technique began to be broken. The problem of how to quickly develop and implement practical policies and measures to solve the problems of protection and heritage of brocade technique is extremely urgent.At present, we have three ways of intangible cultural heritage protection, i.e. rescue protection, integral protection and productive protection. I think that Dai brocade technique belongs to the traditional handicraft class in the intangible cultural heritage items, therefore, we can take the concept and method of productive protection.Mannuandian Village is located in Jinghong City of Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture and Dai brocade is the traditional cottage industry of Mannuandian Village. Historically, the Mannuandian Village was the Dai chieftain's "King's" brocade village, therefore, it is typical and representative in Xishuangbanna history and Dai brocade culture. If we must select a case to investigate and study the heritage and conservation issue of the Dai brocade technique, then it is none other than the village.In view of this, the writer of of this artle travelled to Mannuandian Village in Xishuangbanna to make a deep study of this in2010and2011. On the basis of prvious studies in Dai culture, the intangible cultural heritage and the Dai brocade technique etc made by other researchers, By applying the researching methods and views of ethnology, cultural heritage and economics comprehensively and in reference of field survey materials, the article makes a discussion and analysis focusing on productive protection of Dai brocade technique, with the workflow and current status of brocade technique as the start.1conbine with the field investigation materials to approach and analyze the productive protection of Dai brocade technique based on the workflow of brocade technique and the current status it follows. This article aims to discover the difficulities in inheritance and development of folk handicraft with the representative of Dai brocade through the study of individual cases and presents appropriate solutions, or to provide references for each government and each nation to work out policies and measurements to protect intangible cultural heritages.This article has been divided into five parts with details as below: The Introduction part is on how this subject has been selected, and sort out information such as the investigation background, the relevant researching situation, the relative theories and methods of the study.The first chapter is about historical evolution of Dai brocade in Mannuandian Village and introduces the features of Dai brocade. It also explains the particularity and representative of the respondent, Mannuandian Village.The second chapter is to investigate and introduce the inheriting status of Dai brocade technique, including the brocade tools, kinds of materials, specific technique workflows, inheriting methods of technique as well as the representative inheritors. It also introduces the endangered inheriting status of brocade technique and the difficulties it's facing.The third chapter is approaching the modes and roads for a sustainable development of Dai brocade technique in Mannuandian Village combined with the relevant theory of productive protection on the basis of the current situation in the village. And it presents a development mode of productive protection towards Dai brocade technique in Mannuandian village, say a concrete operation mode involving four parties,"government, company, folk organization and craftsman."The fourth chapter discusses the influence of productive protection acting upon the inheritance and development of Dai brocade techniques. It includes that intangible cultural heritage work been promoted from the external to the inner, the heritage protection transformed from passive to active and national cultural heritage retrieving and so on.
