Chinese traditional patterns are essential components of Chinese culture. Combined with Chinese ideology, aesthetic taste, customs and folk psychology, they were formed after thousands of years of accumulation and baptism of ancient civilization. The thesis aims at analyzing Chinese traditional culture and traditional pattern from the perspective of science of design art, which are blended in the modern design, serving for the public to the purpose of inheritance, development and innovation and will be the main research direction for professional practitioners and students.The highly representative Tang Cao mark of the Sui and Tang Dynasties is the perfect combination of the beauty of form and connotation of the Chinese traditional patterns. Its rich full modeling, free flowing rhythm, wave volume and artistic beauty fully showing the unique aura of oriental culture will be the main topic of the thesis. At present, the on-the-spot investigation of the major cities along the route from Xi'an to Dunhuang has made full preparation for this research. A deeper understanding of image and observation and analysis ability was improved by rational observation method. A shortcut for the modern graphic design was provided by innovative design thinking mode. And an internal basis was provided for Chinese modern design. The paper briefly analyses the origin and evolution of the volume grass grain, focusing on the connotation of imagery modeling and the forms of visual modeling of Tang Cao. Its artistic characteristic was excavated under the specific historical background. The application of Tang Juancao patterns in modern design was comprehensively interpreted with a variety of performance techniques. Some methods are summed up providing good reference for the integration and recreation of traditional pattern and modern design.
