Xiao Culture And The Cultivation Of Chinese National Spirit

National spirit is the soul of national culture; national culture is the origin of national spirit. The cultivation of Chinese national spirit needs Chinese traditional culture as an origin in which Xiao(孝)culture is the foundation. Thus, Xiao culture is also the important cultural origin for the cultivation of Chinese national spirit. To trace to the source of Xiao culture and dig up its inner spirit—love(爱),reverence(敬),obedience(顺),Yi(义)—will promote the cultivation of " a great national spirit centering on patriotism and featuring unity and solidarity, love of peace, industry, courage and ceaseless self-improvement"Xiao culture is the cultural origin of Chinese national spirit, for it directly facilitates the formation of the connotation of " patriotism "—" love " and " loyalty'(忠),"unity and solidarity"—"love of harmony"(贵�'�)and " the view to Tian xia"(天下观),"love of peace"—"to value morality and sense'(重德讲理)," industry and courage"—"Li shen"(立身)and "to respect Yi"(尚义)and " ceaseless self-improvement"—"strong desire to pursue elevation"(向上之心强)Nowadays. Xiao culture confronts difficulties brought by internal and external causes which weakens its positive effect on the process of cultivating Chinese national spirit. However, the opportunities to Xiao culture against the international and domestic background will advance the unification of history and the times and the unification of nation and world.The prerequisite to promote the cultivation of Chinese national spirit is to "innovate" Xiao culture by inheriting the inner spirit of Xiao culture and enriching the ways to practice Xiao culture by the nation and individuals.
