On January 27, 1964, the P.R.C and The Fifth Republic of France established formal diplomatic relations. The action was called "nuclear explosion in foreign affairs", France became the first western superpower which established diplomatic relations with P.R.C.Of course, the impact of international environment should be taken into account, but more important was the impact of China's domestic politics. After 1956, China's domestic politics became more and more radical, varies of political movements came out, and the influence of Taiwan-related questions should not be ignored, etc. All these factors of domestic politics affected China's decision of establishing diplomatic relations with France. This article will use a certain criteria to filter out the specific elements which affected China's decision. The article tries to point out: Under the influence of the intensification of China's domestic political struggle, the left-leaning of its domestic political atmosphere, the highly concentrated mechanism of its foreign policy-making and complexity of Taiwan-related questions, China mainland wanted to establish diplomatic relations with France actively, meanwhile it overestimated the effect of this action. To clarify the roles of these elements in the process of establishing diplomatic relations with France, not only can give a comprehensive evaluation to the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France, but also can provide some inspirations for China's foreign policy decision-making in the future.
