| Some people in western hold different attitude toward that China can embark on a road of peaceful development successfully, even oppose it, John J. Mearsheimer is one of them. This article is a qualitative research that deals with John J. Mearsheimer's attitude toward China's peaceful development aiming at analysing the logic of John J. Mearsheimer's Offensive Realism and the reason why Mearsheimer holds negative attitude toward China's peaceful development, and criticizing his wrong interpretations.The research shows that, John J. Mearsheimer's thought about Power maximization comes from the same origin, namely, Thucydides,Machiavelli and Hans Morgenthau's thought or views about power, and that his theory's structural approach inherit from Hobbes's"Natural State"and Waltz's Structural Realism. Deducing from his theoretical logic, Mearsheimer thinks that China that has a large number of population and rapid economic development, is a threat to America, and that China will challenge the interests of America in Asia. Therefore, Mearsheimer advices that America should contain China as early as possible that is in line with America interests. However, there are some serious defects in Mearsheimer's theoretical logic of"China threat"and"containing China". On the one hand, Mearsheimer's understanding about power is unilateral, on the other hand,"the Security Dilemma"is short of stability. In addition, his deduction is full of historical experience, and his deduction about China's peaceful development and Sino-U.S. elation is more and more intimate, the development of Sino-U.S. relation and the relation about China and its neighboring countries makes it clear that,"Containing China"is behind the times,"Containing China"is no good for America. And the neighboring countries of China will not Contain China with America. |
