This paper is a comprehensive discourse of the prison system, to belong to History of the Chinese Legal System. In the prison system, the song dynasty has reached a considerable degree of complete and mature, and has played an important role in the long history of Chinese legal system. The shortcomings of the prison system reflects the backward nature of feudal society, and we should abandon it, however, some system is still useful for the modern civilization in our current prison building.
