This paper analyses the significances and reality of comparative research on ethnic policies between China and Vietnam, and reflects that the socialist multi-ethnic countries always pay much attention to ethnic problems. China and Vietnam, which are in the social economic transition period, have got many ethnic problems which will affect the social stability, reshaping the country's mental and consolidating its power. By means of comparing the ethnic problems and ethnic policies between China and Vietnam, it will not only help to deal with the international and domestic challenge of ethnic problems, but also help to enrich and develop marxism ethnic theories, and help to construct a socialist harmonious society. This paper adheres to marxist dialectical materialism and historical view, and revolves around the ethnic problems and policies of China and Vietnam by the method of induction and comparison. Firstly, the author analyses the ethnic problems of China and Vietnam. It includes that:Economic development gap exists between ethnic minority and developed regions; Emergencies occur frequently in ethnic minority regions; Historical ethnic barriers still not completely disappeared; Western rivalry powers take ethnic problems as breakthrough in its westernization and differentiation; There are many differences and conflicts between minority and main culture. Secondly, the author analyses the ethnic policies of China and Vietnam, from which we can get that the ethnic problems are very much the same. There are many similarities in the total reason and performance, and a few differences in specific reasons and specific ethnic policies.Based on comparative study, the author summarizes four conclusions:First, We should regard the ethnic problems as life-death survival problems. Second, We should do omni-directional work with economic development as the center. Third, We should not regard all the ethnic problems as political or class problems. Forth, We should examine the realistic policies, instead of regarding all ethnic problems as problems left over by history. As an innovative topic, the ethnic problems and policies of China and Vietnam have been analysed and compared systematically. However ethnic problems are very complex and involve ethnology, politics, sociology, etc. At the same time, I am a junior in academic circles, so this paper must have many shortcomings unavoidably. In future, I will continue to perfect it.
