Research On The Diaoyu Islands Dispute And China's Corresponding Strategy

In 1895, Japan stole the Diaoyu Islands by means of Jawu war. The dispute between China and Japan has existed for more than one century. The dispute is one of obstacles to smooth progress of Sino-Japanese Relations. It is the problem about territorial sovereignty and always injures the feelings of Chinese and Japanese people.Diaoyu Islands are Chinese sacred territory since ancient times. The truth can be found in a lot of China and Foreign Documents which are solid evidence. Diaoyu Islands were first discovered, named and used by China. China has the stipulated sovereign rights in international law and never give up the right.On the basis of analysis and comparison, this thesis outlines the strategic core, objective and countermeasures for the settlement of the dispute with theory of International Politics.The writer analyses the dispute and the dice game between Japan and Chinese government and the public in history and compare three typical island dispute cases in the world——Northern Islands dispute between Japan and Russia through the method of diplomacy to be solved, Pedra Brancha Disputes between Singapore and Malaysia through the method of judgment made by the International Court of Justice to be solved, Malvinas Islands War between England and Argentina——to offers some helpful suggestions about solving Diaoyu Islands dispute.the paramount national interest is reunification of the motherland, safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity, concentrating its efforts on economic construction for raising the standard of living and realizing national modernization. There are rich fishery and oil resources in Diaoyu Islands sea water. Diaoyu Islands lie in vital lines of communication. There is a growing security dilemma between China and Japan, and the United States and Japan want to control the Asia-Pacific region and hinder China's development through Diaoyu Islands. It has very important value in economic and military for China. Solving the dispute smoothly and safeguarding the interest of the country is the strategic goal and core of China.After defining the goal and comparing of state comprehensive strength between China and Japan and countermeasures adopted by them, we should work out corresponding means for implementing the strategies. The best result for China is peaceful settlement of the dispute by peaceful means of diplomacy, international arbitration and so on. But we must prepare for a direct threat of military force to the national sovereignty and territorial integrity.China should take diplomacy, international arbitration and military affairs and other countermeasures to settle this dispute on the basis of safeguarding the state interests.
