Larceny's Situational Crime Prevention

It should be said that the hugest destructiveness to a society in peace is crime. The purpose of larceny is steal other's property, and in the specific types of crime, larceny accounting for a considerable proportion. According to relevant statistics, larceny accounts for about 70% of the total criminal offences. Larceny imposes serious impact on social stability, economic development and people's lives. Therefore, effective measures must be taken to relieve the negative influence on the society and citizen. In spite of the gradual improvement of the criminal legislation against larceny and its containment to some extent through judicial crime prevention and social crime prevention. However, larceny has changed dramatically both in quantity and types with the social development and the expansion of people's lives area. The continuous growth in absolute quantity and the more technical and invisible means of crime make it more difficult to prevent and control. Re-examine the current crime prevention measures of larceny, we can find that judicial crime prevention, social crime prevention and other traditional crime prevention in larceny have careless of the existence, it's need to explore other means of prevention to change the traditional and single judicial prevention model.Faced with an increasingly serious situation of larceny, Western countries have adopted different prevention and control strategies, changing from the traditional and single judicial prevention model to a ternary combination model of judicial prevention, social prevention and situation prevention. They apply widely the situation prevention model, which rose in the 1960s, to prevent the larceny, transforming from only concerned with the punishment of offenders to focus on both offenders and the situation in which the crime takes place. Currently, there are also some situational crime prevention factors in China's comprehensive social security management. However, as opposed to rational choice theory, routine activity theory, environmental criminology based on the theory of situational crime prevention. The situation prevention with such obvious features and advantages as well-targeted, cost-saving and high-efficiency. Situational crime prevention provides a new perspective for the prevention of larceny.Based on the analysis of concrete situation under which theft crime occurs, the theft crime situation prevention initiatively changes the subject elements, goal elements and space-time elements which will easily result in theft crime, with the aim to increase the implementation difficulty of theft crime, raise the risk of being caught and reduce the expected benefit, and finally prevent the crime intention and the theft crime itself. The theft crime situation prevention, which mainly controls the theft crime on the micro-level, changes the current practice which only analyzes the prevention measures based on the causes of crime and improves the prevention and remediation system of theft crime.
